WELLINGTON, July 2. A daring and cleverly planned robbery took place at the residence of Mr R. P. Collins, Brougham street, at about 1.30 this morning. Mt Collins and his wife were awakened by the movement- of the door of their bedroom, and they heard footsteps descending the staire. There was a light burning in the room at the time and this seems to have enabled the burglar to carry out his work with great promptitude. He seeni6 to have gone direct to the receptacle in which Mr and Mrs Collins' jewellery was placed. He made a clean sweep of both, carrying away plunder to the extent of £500 or £600. This included some valuaUo diamond rings. The police were soon informed, and several arrests have been made on suspicion. Footprints in the garden are said to be, tl» only clue to th© offender.
