The second of a seTicii of fortnightly a<3semblics under the .management, of tlie hall committee was held in the haJl on Friday evening lastj, when, considering the dateot' the voads and weather, there was a large attendance. The evening was passed with cards, draughts, chess, pit, and clano ing, which was enjoyed by about thirty couples. The music supplied was very good. It is to be hoped now that these asembiies have started that they will l>e well patronised as it is a. good way of spending an odd evening during Jhc, winter months.

Allen has sold his lease of his Hurst burn road farm to Mr C. K. Lawrie, who lias thi> adjoining property, Mr Allen having leased h)s father's farm, and m still kwpin^ on the .land.
