I , (From Our Own Correspondent.) In spite of the rough night last Friday the Auroa hall, commodious as it is, was packed almost to suffocation by the large and appreciative audience of over two hundred and fifty people, without counting the children, which had assembled from far and wide on tbe occasion of the annual school concert 'in aid of the school prize funds. - This year, owing to the youth of the performers, uv& first half of the programme only was allotted to the children, who each and all ' performed their respective parts admirably, and it would be difficult'to single out atny of the young per-, formers for special praise, as they were all, splendid, 'the sash drill by the g ; ih was very pretty, and the dumb-bell rlr'll by the boys was excellent. The teacher*, helped . by Miss Jackson, who voluntarily assisted in making costumes, etc., ,as well as attending at the .practice daily to flay, tho children's accompanunents, aro to be, congratulated on tho success of their efforts, and tl/e continuous and enthusiastic applause with which every item was re» ceived must haye^been yety gratifyift?; to all . concerned. Herbert ; comic song, "Take your Umbrella with you. John," Mr Chiles; encore, "I've, bee^i left in charge;" violin solo, Miss Power; recitation, "Dream of Eugene Aram," Mr Cooper; song. "Asleep on the Deep." Mr Herbert. Farce, "Tlv.it Bottle." Caste— "Given," Miss C. Herbert; "Aunt Lavinia," Miss Herbert; "Betty," Miss G. Herbert; "Priseilla," Miss Dunn; "Harlcy." W. Lyndon; "J. Bacon." H. Herbert.; "Kecles," W. Taylor. After the entertainment Mr R. Dunn, Chairman of School Committee, in a few well chosen words, thanked Mr P. G. j .jackson (the headmaster). Miss Sealer (the assistant teacher), ami Miss Jaukson for the trouble they had" taken in I making the concert the success it un- . doubtedly was, and also took the occasion [ of thanking those who hud assisted with « the second half of the programme, and also those who had voluntarily offered to play for the dance, as well its the Kapuni Hall Society for the. loan of seats, and hoped that should occasion ever require, the local Jlall Society would see tlwir way to reciprocate. Supper was then handed round, and the evening wound up with a most enjoyable dance, which lasted till close on daylight. Last week thirty-eight of tlie laU>st books were added to the School Library.
