BLENHEIM, June 25.
During tlie eight weeks of the New Zealand egg-laying competition 1061 eggs were .laid, as against 819 for tine previous week. This advance brings the average per pen up td_lo 3-sth» eggs.' H. Leger's White Leghorns (Levin) maintains the lead with 27 for the last week, and an aggregate of 195. Brooks, of South Australia, second, 29 and 188 ; H. Creber, Silver Wyandottes (Westport), with 15 for the week, and Jonathan Hodson's White Leghorn (BlenIveini), with" 24 for tlie week, <arc in the third place, with aoi aggregate .of 157cach.

MR WRIGHT'S HAND AMPUTATED.-

Regarding the case of Mr E. G. Wright, •electrical instructor at the Thames School of Mines, who received injuries to his hand while carrying out experiments with the X-rays, amputation was considered necessary and the left hand was removed at the wrist. Mr Wright is going ~Home | for further medical treatment, but would! have been physically unable to make the j voyage without amputation, owing to the ' pain mukiuc such ravages into his constitution. The case is attracting considerable attention amongst the medical profession. ~~
