THE MYSTERY DEEPENS.

[PRKSS ASSOCIATION.] (Received December 16, 8.34 a.m.) PARIS, December 16. The Syveton mystery deepens. The body was placed in the study after being asphyxiated. Sensational arrests are expected. It is reported that he committed suicide to avoid the exposure of an intrigue with his own stepdaughter. [On November 6th a heated debate took place in the French Chamber of Deputies on the subject of promotions in the army. Suddenly, on the result of a division being announced, M. Syveton, a Nationalist member, advanced and struck General Andre (who was Minister for War up to November 16th last, when he resigned) in the face twice, disfiguring him and causing blood to flow. The Ministerialists, enraged, made a dash for their opponents, and a fierce melee ensued. The sitting was suspended, and the temporary expulsion of M. Svynlon waa agreed to. On November 7th the Chamber authorised the prosecution of M. Syveton, and it was also announced that several army officers had challenged him. Syveton was arrested while on - the way to fight a duel. Whilst awaiting trial he was found dead. Murder was suspected.]
