CRICKET.
Tho season will bo opened in a week or two and if cricketers wish to prevent a recurrence of the woful state of affairs last year it behoves them to begin by showing sufficient enthusiasm to attend the annual meeting of tho combined clubs which takes place on Friday evening in the Fire Brigade Hall. With such exceptional advantages as are possessed by the local clubs, cricket should be very strong indeed. Where else in New Zealand have cricketers had given them, free of rent, a ground such as they have in Bayly Park? It must make the generous donor sad to think that so little advantage has been taken of his great gift to cricket in Hawera. If in Eltham, in Manaia, in Kaponga, in Normauby sufficient interest and enthusiasm can be roused to form and work a club, it is a standing reproach that Hawora, a much larger place and much better endowed, cannot put two teams in tho field, provide the requisite funds, and display enthusiasm enough to keep their ground in playable order. It is sincerely to be hoped that every one will put his shoulder to the wheel and combine to work for the common good.
