OTAKEHO.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The social held on 25th inst. in aid of thu English Church fund proved a great success, in spite of the pianistc failing to put iv an appearance. However, this cruel disappointment,, was quickly remedied by some of the ladies present, who promptly decided to go through with the programme, and supply the music alternately between them (which was voted first class). Among those who so kindly presided at the piano were Misses Young, Carroll, Knight, Hyan, Duston, Tipler, Mrs Taylor, and Mr P. Cutfield, and all went home feeling that they had had a real good time. The most striking feature of the evening was the cake walk. This graceful contortion was freely indulged in, and from a spectators' point of view was better worth a couple of "hob" (as one gentleman remarked) than any of tho plays that visit this lonely sphere.
