A SHARP ENGAGEMENT.
LONDON, September 22. Oyama telegraphed that seven battalions of infantry with two batteries attacked the Japanese at Chingtise on the 17th inst., when a sharp engagement ensued. A portion of the Mukden force approached nearest, and then began to retire northward, the Japanese artillery firing on them for hal?-an-hour, inflicting heavy Toss. (Received September 23, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, September 22. Router's messages state that a battle expected hourly at Fushan, 30 miles e«st of Mukden. Reports at Tokio say that the forts' > just captured by desperate assault arc Kuropatkin's fort and another westward of Itzshan, which offer excellent gun positions overlooking Port Arthur. AH Russian attempts to dislodge were repelled.
