A TEMPESTUOUS VOYAGE.
Per Press Association.
WELLINGTON, January 10. The steamer Kotya, liom Bunbury, via Fremantle and Albany, has arrived after a trying experience. She ran into a heavy nor'-east gale on New Year's Day. Three days later it raged with almost cyclonic violence, and the vessel spent trie greater part of her time under water. One heavy .sea, which swept Her deck, completely wrecked the port and aft lifeboats, carried away the port back stay, the cabin skylight, and all bunkers and hatches, and ilooded the engine-room. The engine-room staff had a most unenvi- 1 able experience. The engineers and firemen, however, although almost flooded out, stuck to their posts^ and manage.) U> lcaep the fir^s going, the water coming up vo ihe fire bars. Rough weather continued right up till .Farewell Spit was made. Here a change in the wind sent a strong south-east gale down on the already severely tried vessel, and this lasted until the steamer reached port. The damage will run the owners of the vessel into about £200 for repairs.
