NEW YORK, Jjuly 2. Two defendants in' tho trials at Montgomery, Alabama, pk(atied gjuilty, anjd were .sentenced to a yeajr's imprisonment. Tho judge ddclared that defenceless people, guilty of no crime, had. been, brought to Court, cond by collusion of a magistrate were de-, prived of their liberty, forced to work, anri cruelly beaten. (There were ninety-nine indictments. It was alleged, and apparently with good reason, tfaa,t negroes'* were charged with offences which they did not com' niit, and," being found guilty, were sent into virtual slavery at the hands of their accusers.)
