WAIMATE HORTICULTURAL SHOW.

The fourth annual Show of the above Society was opened this afternoon in the Society's marquee on the Recreation Ground, Manaia. The weather is fine, but very windy, and it seemed sometimes as if the tent would blow over. The Secretary and Committee were hard at work all the morning getting matters arranged. One feature of the Show is the fine exhibit of cactus dahlias, Bhown by Messrß Laird and Sons, of Wanganui, and Weightman and Sons, of Awahuri, the former including 120, and the latter 150 varieties. In garden produce there is a firstolass display of potatoes and vegetables and fruit, especially apples. In poultry, the exhibits, though small in number, are of good quality. This also applies to dogs. The results up to the time of going to press are as follows : — POT PLANTS. Judge : J. Brown. (Window grown plants), owners of greenhouses not being eligible. Begonias, 1 variety flowering: Miss Williams 1, Mrs G. Godfrey 2. Four entries. Fuchsias : Miss Williams 1 and 2 Geraniums, one, double : Miss Mitchell ; only entry Ferns, one, established : Mrs W. Milne h o Cactus (Mrs Staunton's special) : Misa Hnstie 1, Miss Williams 2 Special olass in bloom for which there is no class : Miss Hastie 1 Three flowering plants (to be grown in window), Mr Limbrick's special : Miss. Gibson 1, Mrs Owen 2 Special olass, foliage (to be grown in window) : Miss Mitchell 1, Amy Paterson 2 Three foliage plants (to be grown in window), Mr Limbrick's special: Mm Gibson 1, Miss Williams 2 Children Undeb Fifteen. Limbrick 1 (well grown) With a view to celebrating the jubilee of the discovery .of gold in New Zealand, it has been proposed to hold a Mining and Industrial Exhibition in Coromandel.
