NEW ZEALAND, THE COMMONWEALTH, AND THE ISLANDS.

Received February 10, 10.37 a.m.

Sydney, February 10. The Herald, commenting on Sir H. S. Berkeley's (former Ohief Justice of Fiji) statement, points out that the question of colour had not interfered with the political connection of British New Guinea with the Uommonwealtb, and it would be sorry to think that any state or colony would go around loudly demanding a large concession in return for what she had done for the Empire. The Fiji9n question had nothing to do with the patriotism of New Zealand of Australia, but annexation or federation is for the calm consideration of the Fijians themselves.
