Education Conference.

(PBR PRBSS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, July 20. The Educational^Conference was engaged this morning in disoussing a motion by Mr Lee, that in constructing any amended syllabus the whole work of several standards be divided into two or more sections and that every scholar be classified in each section separately. To this Mr Gruody movedawrfai ment, that the principal teacher of the school shall have full discretion to arrange his pupils in different classes for different subjects according to their ability and proficiency with respect to those subjects. The Government has decided to pay the actual travelling expenses of members of the Conference. Mr Grundy's amendment was further amended by adding a proviso that pupils of a school shall still be regarded as belonging to some standard class on a basis of average attainment in essential subjects, and carried. A resolution was also carried urging the Government to increase the grant for manual and technical instruction by enlarging the allowance under the Technical Instruction Act and providing funds for the erection and furnishing of necessary class rooms, country schools to receive special consideration.
