Mutton tallow : Fine quality 225, medium 20s. Beef : Fine 20s 6d, medium 18s 6d. The N.Z.L. and M. A. Co. received a London market cable dated 19th January, 1898. Wool.— The sales opened at an average advance of £d per lb on last sale's prices. Crossbred, market unchanged. Competition by both Home and Foreign buyers is active, and their attendance is good. The opening catalogue contained 7,500 bales, but was not a representative one. The total quantity available, including wool held over from last series, is 341 bales, 70,000 bales of which have been forwarded to the manufacturing districts direct. Tallow is in good demand. Medium tallow has advanced 3d per cwt since last report.
