The Falls Mountain House.
Messrs Strauchon (Commissioner of Crown Lands) and G. S. Robinson , (Crown Lands Ranger), together with Messrs Dingle, Hornby, Heslop, Wilkie, and Hurley, members of the South Egmont Forest Conservators Board, peoceeded yesterday to the falls and the ranges above them, for the purpose of ascertaining the nature and extent of the work required to be undertaken to make the route more easily accessible to the tourists who flock to the mountain in such numbers during every summer. After a close inspection of the works proposed to be done out of the Government grant the Board thanked Messrs Strauchon and Robinson for the trouble taken in so carefully inspecting the track, and hoped that there would be no delay in placing the .necessary amount at its credit. It was decided to put men on at once so as to have the mountain open to the public by the 17 th December. A proposal to put a toll of Is on every horse entering . the reserve was held over for consideration. As funds are needed for the paying of a caretaker, and for providing for the wear and tear, incidental to the use of the house and grounds, the proposal will, it is thought, be favorably considered at the next meeting. It was agreed on the suggestion of the Commissioner of Crown Lands that the members of the South North and East Boards should hold a conference on the top of Egmont at an early date. The suggestion was agreed to, so that members who are over 17 stone, will probably go into active training at once.
