(per press association.) GISBORNE, October 80. An attempt was made last night to burn down the Roseland Hotel, Makaraka. The fire was discovered by the proprietor in the nick of time, the flames having a strong hold of the froni door-way, and spreading rapidly. There is a large influx of visitors expected for Carnival week.
