ELTHAM.

(by a coeeespondekt.)

Tbe motto of Eltbam, Mr Editor, at tbe present time is "Excelsior." All around us we see signs of busy life, and evidences are not wanting to b&ow that there is a good future before tbe township. Tbe Salvation Army bave been busy lately, and at an important meeting held here, at wbioh Colonel Bailey was present, it was resolved to erect barracks at Eltbam, several persons giving handsome dona* tions. The Primitive Methodists, too, are contemplating building a church, and I see by your columns tbat tenders are invited. I have seen tbe plans of tbe building, wbioh, when erected, will be an ornament to the town.

Measles have been the fashion at Eltbam of late, and in consequence the school has been closed for a fortnight, reopening on Monday last. Parents should see that children attended school regularly now, as tbe examinations will Boon be on, and, owing to the oirenmstanoes mentioned above, a little lost time has to be palled up.

The Eltham Co-operative Dairy Faotory have resumed operations, and are counting on a very successful season. They bave several new suppliers, and with snob, an efficient manager as Mr Dawson, and so able a secretary as Mr Murray, backed up by a bard-working board of direotprs, there is no donbt but that their expectations will be realised.

Eltham people fully endorsed the remarks in your leader of Thursday last, and such an Ace as you enumerate would be welcomed. It is time something was done in the way oi footpaths, while the cemetery question also demands attention, both of which matters could be seen to if the people bad control of local affairß.
