TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

The Land Board met on Monday. Present : Messrs Strauchon (commissioner of Crown Lands), Messrs Livingston, Stock, and Colonel Trimble.

LAND SOLD.

The land disposed of since the last meeting was section 663, blook 8, Waimate (11 acres), to G. McLean.

P.L. TRANSFERS.

The board sanctioned the following d.p. transfers :— W. N. Bartlett, see 12, blook 5, Kaupokonui, to G. A. Hnrley; J. P. K'enner, sec 11, block 11, Huiroa, to J. P. Wright ; Kells and Taplin, S. B. No 2, Opaku, to S. and S. W. F. Taplin and T. Kells.

D.P. TRANSFER.

F. J. McCarthy's application to transfer d.p. section 5, blook 1, Waimate, to P. McCarthy, was acceded to.

CAPITALISATION.

The appended applications to capitalise were granted :— H. S. and E. L. Briant, see 24, blook 9, Kaupokonui: M. J. Maoßeynolds, sco 127, blook 8, Capo ; A. J. Walters, sco 40, blook 4, Kaupokonui.

ACQUIRING FREEHOLD.

The board acceded to the following d.p. applications to acquire freehold '. — T. Scott, sco 79, blook 8, Waimate ; T. Soott, sco 17, blook 7, Waimate ; T. Soott, sco 56, block 7, Waimate ; A. j. Walters, sco 40, block 4, Kaupokonui ; F. Ferris, sco 4, blook 3, Ngaire ; J. and W. Conaglen and D. Herhhy, seos 35, 86, and 42, blook 14, Opunake 'p.]. section).

LEASE IN PERPETUITY.

W. T. Barr's application to convert his d.p. section 19, blook 7, Egmont, to a lease in perpetuity, was agreed 'to. MORTGAGE.

Mr B. D. Welsh applied on behali of Jas. Wallace to mortgage sco 10, block 15, Ngaire. — Agreed to.

APPROVED OF.

Flans of proposed expenditure from tbe Clifton County Council (of £20 on Junction road) and Hawera County Connoil (£707 6s 8d of accrued " thirds") were submitted, and agreed to.

SUB-LEASE.

Messrs George Thomas and M. B. Grainger applied for permission to sublet parts sections 74 and 75, blook 11, Opunake, to J. D. Hurley, for dairy factory purposes, and J. D. Hurley applied to transfer the sob-leases to Messrs J. O. George, N. King, and B. Cook. Both applications were agreed to. OPAKU.

The Banger reported on the compliance with conditions by lesseeß of small grazing runs in tbe Opaku survey dißtriot.

It was decided that O'Connor, the lessee of run No. 5, be notified to show cause before the next meeting, on 16th October, why the run should not be forfeited. E. Bayly, lessee of run No. 9, will also be called upon to show cause why bis lease should not be forfeited.

The board further decided that J. C. Oddie, lessee of run No. 12, be requested to submit an application before the next meeting of the board to take his brother into partnership ,- the residence of one will then be considered sufficient.

Mr W. Brown will be called upon to explain why he has sub-let run No. 13 without permission from the board, it having been reported that he had done so.

With regard to the question of access to small runs 7, 8, 9, and 10, Opaku,

Mr Stock moved, and it was resolved, on tbe adoption of the Commissioner's report and recommendation, that a nnw road be surveyed to give the necessary access to the small rnna named, and tbe country lying to the north of them.

EXEMPTION.

W. Brown applied for exemption from residence on small run No. 13, Opaku, on the ground that he lives witbin ten mileß of the run.

The board deferred consideration until the applicant has explained why tbe land has been sub-let.

LAND PRICED.

Tbe-raßger- reported on the application of Messrs Taylor and Williamson for 600 acres each in block 10, Opaku. The board recommended that the prioe be 5s per acre.

REDUCTION.

The re-valuation of E. F. Blake's small run No. 7, Opaku, was considered, and it was decided to reduce the land from 6d to 3d per acre per annum, upon the lessee giving an understanding to pay the ex* penees of tbe inquiry. TIMBER LIOENSE.

Mrs O. Brown applied for an extension of her license to cut timber over Te Ngaere ' '->ok for a period of 12 months, from Ist larch, 1893. Tbe application was granted.

OPUNAKE.

Mr A. H. Moore wrote, stating that it would be useless trying to obtain a lessee for subdivisions 2 and S, Opunake railway reserve at the rent asked — 8s per acre — on account of the goree.

The board resolved to refer the matter to the ranger for a report on this and the other Crown lands in tbe locality, with a view to the best means of disposing of the same and freeing them from gorse.

IMPROVED SETTLEMENT FARM.

The Surveyor- General wrote, stating that sections 4 and 6, blook 6, Kapara, might be used for an improved settlement farm if the interests of settlement could be served thereby.

Colonel Trimble moved — "That in consequence of tbe desire of the Govern* ment that land be found for sections for tbe above-mentioned purpose, tbat tbe proposed Education Beserves 4 and 6, blook 5, Kapara, be recommended for proclamation as improved settlement farms; and tbat section 8. block 6, Kapara, be reserved for education pat* poses in exchange."

ACCEDED TO.

Several applications for time in whioh to pay overdue instalments, etc, were acceded to. The board adjourned.— News.
