WELLINGTON, September 26.
The City Counoil, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commeroe and the Harbor Board, have decided not to grant consent to a holiday on October 25 (Labor Day), though they will be quite willing to consider a request on some more convenient day. The Labour Department report that there were 272 unemployed last; month. The number of men employed on Govern, ment works in roads and railways {co-operative) waß 1118, and by tbe Public Works Departmenf7B2.
Messrs T h aod Thompson, of Eltham, who are turumg out Boine excellent work, have just completed a fine spring dray for Mr Hill, of Ngaire, a new kind of vehiole for nee in connection with tbe coming season's work.
