Agricultural Conference carried this resolution : — That the conference is strongly of opinion that the subject ot railway management should not be made a party question ; that the opinion of farmers in Otago is pratically unanimous in favor of tbe present system of non political control being maintained, and

The special that brought the 'Frisco mail, on its return with tbe empty traeki for Camaru, was derailed atPeliohetß&y, running into a siding, whore stood some fifteen trucks loaded with ooal. The morning was intensely dark, with rain falling, and the first intimation tbe engine-driver received tbat tbe line was not clear was the force of tbe concussion. Tbe two foremost trucks were smashed to pieces, and the others driven so far back tbat tbe two hindmost passed over the buffer. The engine also sustained severe damage, tbe cowcatcher and front wheels being wrecked, while tbe engine itself was lifted off the line. The affair seems tbe result of a pure accident.
