Ministers intend introducing the. Eleotoral Bill at an early stage of tbe session with a view of enfranchising women before the General Elections.

Sir P. Buckley Rays that he must have assistance in the Council for the passage of Government bills, and one of the newly-created peers (probably Hon. Mr. Montgomery) will be appointed member of the Executive without portfolio. The vacancy on the Hansard staff caused by Mr Parkinson's resignation will be filled by the appointment of Mr Kay, a member ot the Press Gallery, or Mr Gore, secretary to the Hon. Mr. McKenzie. Ministers defend their action in appointing their shorthand writers to the Hansard stafl by saying tbat the services of such appointees will 'be utilised -during the recess for Ministerial work.

The Hinemoa, with members of both branches of Legislature, is to be sent on a visit of inspection to the Cheviot estate in a fortnight's time.

CHBISTCHUECH, Jane 20. Mr Beeves addressed some 3000 of bis constituents last night. He received the unanimous thanks and confidence in him and the Government. The following resolution was also carried : — This tneetiog is of opinion that no Ministry or member of Parliament is entitled to the confidence of Liberal electors unless prepared to grant to prohibitionists the same right to control tbe liquor traffic at the ballot-box that they possess upon othef'qaestions.
