At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Mr. Bristow stated that the existing depression in Australia and the low price ruliDg for produce had reduced the profits of tha comDaoy. The shareholders complained that the expenses ia connection with the working of the company were excessive, but the chairman assured the meeting that the employment of the very beat men was necessary, and they consequently had to pay high salaries. Sir E. W. Stafford and Mr. Thomas Russell were reflected directors.
