THE HOSPITAL.
The Hospital Committee are in a little difficulty for want of a site. Unfortunately, there is no public reserve for hospital purposes, and there is some legal entanglement preventing the utilisation of the Mitchell bequest for building on one of the ordinary borough reserves. The purchase of a site would mean the expenditure of a considerable sum of the money which has been collected. Is there any publio spirited burgess who will come to the resoue ? We need hardly point out that when a lady living in America haa of her own free will and generosity given a substantial donation towards the coat of a building, it is hardly too much to hope that a site may be forthcoming to enable the town to get the advantage at an early date of tbe Mitchell gift. On behalf of the burgesses generally, we appeal for the gift of a suitable site. Not many people can afford to hand over a lump sum of money, but surely there are some who can spare a corner off their acres for this purpose. The establishment of the desired institution is a neoessity, and the town and district ought not longer to bB withont a suitable hospital. It seems to be a question of self-help, and we hope that there is sufficient self-reiiance and public spirit in the town and district to secure what is needed.
