WELLINGTON, January 7. In an affiliation case heard to-day, the defendant produced a deed duly drawn up in legal form showing tbat by payment of £50 he had been released by the plaintiff from all further responsibility in regard to the paternity of the child. Counsel for plaintiff, while admitting that his client received ;£SO, contended it was not a sufficient discharge from future liability, as it was set forth in seotion 14 of tbe Destitute Persons Act, 1877, that no deed relating to a compromise or affiliation case is valid unless sanctioned by a Besideni Magistrate. Mr. Bobinsoia, 8.M., upheld this contention, but adjourned the case and allowed a compromise to be arrived at between tbe parties. The State farm which the Government have decided to establish in Wellington district will oonsist of 1560 acres in the Otamakapu - Mangawhariki Block, near Feilding, and is said to be of excellent quality. j
INVEBCABGLLL, January 7. The wool sales opened to-day. Over 8000 bales were offered. Competition was good for best sorts, Whioh rule about £d per 1b below last year's rates, while for inferior there is a reduction of Id.
