Blaokett, C.E., who was Engineer* in-Chief for the colony from 1874 until 1890, when be went to London as consulting and inspecting engineer for the colony, died here yesterday. He only arrived from England fonr weeks ago. His health bad been bad for some time before leaving whioh caused bis return. He- was among the earliest settlers of Taranaki, where he arrived in 1851, bat, some six years later, i removed to Nelson, where he carried out important engineering works.
