DISASTERS IN CHINA. (Per s.s. Te Anau at the Bluff.)
MELBOURNE, November 22. Hong Kong exchanges state that two men were found on an island near where tbe Bokhara was wrecked. They do not belong to that vessel, but were the sole survivors of the new Norwegian steamer Normand, wrecked in the same typhoon, in which over 400 lives were lost. The Normand was on a voyage from Nagasaki to Singapore for coal. Other China news by the steamer includes a report of an attack made upon tbe Ray. Mr. Phillops, missionary, at Fnkiem. An infuriated mob roahed the missionary's dwelling, and, being nnabls to force an entrance, set fire to it. The inmates narrowly escaped being burnt to death. Phillips, md his wife were battered and bruised, but managed to reach tbe residence of a magistrate, who sheltered them. Terrible suffering exists thronghont the flooded districts around Tientsin. Subscriptions from all parts of China are reported to be flowing in freely in aid of tbe distressed people. A great fire at Icbang has rendered thousands of people destitute and homeless. A great portion of the city was laid in ashes, and learlnl fatalities took place, the bodies of the victims drifting in bundreds down the rivers. The houses burned at Sbipa were formerly the homes of over 900 families. Besides the dwellings of families in other parts of tbe town nearly 200 boats and craft of all descriptions were consumed.
