FOOTBALL.

CANTERBURY v. WELLINGTON.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

WELLINGTON. September 12.

The match WelUngton v. Canterbury was played this afternoon in tbe presence of between 3000 and 4000 people. The weather was line but the ground was ankle deep in mud. Lady Glasgow was present and waa cheered by the teams. The state of the ground precluded any chance of an interesting game, bat it was more onesided than was expected after Canterbury's victories in the North. Tbe local men played a winning game all through, Pringle and Stuart obtaining tries in the first spell, one being converted. This was increased by another goal, making 12 points against three scored by tbe visitors from a penalty kick. The fine collaring and following up of the Wellington men were too much for their opponents, who seemed to play with little heart on finding ont the state of the ground. The visitors lefc this evening for Lyttelton.
