Redwood's performances are as follows : — As a 2-year-old, ?<t Hawkes Bay Autumn Meeting he ran third in the Nursery Plate, won by Adulation Redwood was left at tbe post, and was not persevered with ; on the 2nd day be easily won tbe Juvenile Handicap of six furlongs, in lm 19secs, beating Fair Ellen and Adulation. At Canterbury Autumn Meeting, ran third to Carbine in the Champagne Stakes of 6 furlongs, being beaten by half -length in lm 15|s. The colt was anything but fit, not having had any work between tbe two meetings. On the second day be was beaten in a sfurlong race by Wolverine, to whom, however, he was conceding 191b, tbe time being lm 2^s. As a 3-year-old he won the Mabikipawa Cup and several other races. Black Rose, who is half-brother to Redwood, and is standing at the fee ot six guineas, is considered by " Sir Launcelot " to be one of the best colts that ever won the " blue ribband " of Canterbury. Chieftain is a very dark chestnut horse standing 16 hands 1£ in high, and is a fine specimen of a Oly3esdale, possessing good head, neck and shoulders, with Bplendid barrel and great breadth of quarters, immense flat bone and plenty of hair the best of quality ; he has mild temper, a sound constitution, and being descended from celebrated ancestors is well qualified to be a breeder of firstclass stock. Chieftain by Prince Charlie, out of Nancy by Prince Arthur, imported from Scotland, and a prizetaker at the Highland Society's Show. Prince Charlie, imported from Scotland by Mr Boag, of Canterbury, was bred by James Nichol Fleming, Knockdown, Ayrshire, Scotl'd ; out of celebrated mare Darling, whose history is unparalleled. She gained Ist prize at the Highland Society's Show at Stirling in 1864; ; Ist prize at the aame society's show afc Inverness in 1865, and also gained Ist at Ayr same year ; io 1868 she gained, besides the society's prize at Ayr, a prize of £10 offered by the Highland Society for the best brood mare, open to Scotland. She was Ist at Maybole in 1869, and Ist at Maybole and Ayr in 1870, thus finishing her show career unbeaten. Prince Charlie won three Ist; piizes before leaving Scotland, and was champion horse in Cbriatchurch for three years in succession, and his stock has gained a great reputation in Canterbury. Prince of Wales, full brother to Prince Charlie, was champion of Scotland, and was sold for £1,500. Chieftain's stock at Bgmont Show, the first time exhibited, took Ist prize in yearling class, also champion mare on show ground. Chieftain will travel as follows: — Eltham, on Mondays ; Tuesdays, to Kakaramea via Hawera (Main South Road), returning on Wednesdays ; Thursdays, to Otakebo via Okaiawa and Manaia, returning Fridays via Main South Road to Hawera ; Saturdays, Normanby.
