WELLINGTON, January 30. A Supplementary Gazette issued this evening contains a scale of fares, rates, and charges on the New Zealand railways, which will come into force on February 6th.
Captain Wray, R.M. of the West Coast will relieve Mr. Beswick, R.M. of Timaru, wbo has been granted leave of absence on the ground of ill health.
It is stated that in carrying out the retrenchment scheme in the Defence Department that Major Scannell, of Taupo, and Dr. Campbell, of Auckland, have received notice that their services are to be dispensed with '
AUCKLAND, January 28. The jubilee of the planting of the Roman Catholio faith in New Zealand by Bishop Pompalher, first bishop of Auckland, was celebrated to-day. Pontifical high mass was offered at St. Patrick's Cathedral by Bishop Luck, assisted by the local and suburban priests, a full choir being present under the conductorship of Dr. Egan. At vespers in the evening, Bishop Luck preached. There were crowded congregations at both services, and the church was effectively decorated. AUCKLAND, January 81. Edward Hodgkins, omnibus driver, got his leg broken by falling irom an omnibus when returning from the Takapuna races on Saturday evening. The bone was badly smashed by the wheels going over it, and the surgeons at the hospital said amputation was the only means of saving the injured man's life. Hodgkins, however, steadily refused to permit amputation, and is now dying unconscious, mortification having commenced. By a fire in Spring-street, Freeman's Bay, early this morning, there were destioyed three houses, occupied by Scott, Anderson, and Clues. The insurances are not known.

For some time past a systematic robberies of two drapers shops, Wright's and pale's, have been carried on, the premises having been broken into at night and goods stolen. Last night three young men John Allen, Jas. Edward Ridfer, and Edw.ard Walter Gotch were arrested for the robberies, and some of the stolen articles were found in thßir possession. CHRISTCHURCH, January 29. GREYMOUTH, January 80. A very considerable sum of money is
being paid at the Warden'B Court in the shape of mining fees on reefs on the Paparoa range, which are once more receiving great attention. Thousands have formerly been speut in the Langdon and other claims on that hill without much result.
