ATHLETIC.

(Lusos.)

The Waverley Sports are to ba held tomorrow. Many runners from this district have nominated and intend to compete, though they do not consider the handicapping so good as it should be. The nominations for each event are so very large that it would be impossible to say with any degree of certainty who should win; but from what I know and have heard of the merits of tbe respective candidates, I venture to place them as follows :—IOO: — 100 Yards : Watts or J. Minniz (each 6yds start), Ist ; Greenwood (sch.), 2nd or 3rd. 220 Yards : Greenwood or A. Bayly, 1 ; Bryce or Watts, 2. 440 Yards : Atkins or Greenwood, Copeland, Mentz. District Race : Davis or Ellis. Half-mile : Copeland, Hill, Rankin. One Mile : Jackson, Atkins, Hill. 220 Hurdles: Copeland, Bayly, Paterson.

The Waitara Sports also take place tomorrow. Although the nominations for each event are small in number, I expect to hear of some close runs, as the handicapping appears to have been well allotted. For the Waitara Cup, I shall pin my faith to C. Bayly, with starts of 2, 5, and 10 yards in each of the three events respectively, as I imagine him too good for tbe other competitors. W. Bayly should pull off the 220 Yards, with Watson well up ; and Tate the 100 Yards. I understand that a public meeting will be called shortly re Hawera sports.
