(per united pbess association.) CHRISTCHUBCH, July 2. Mr. Montgomery announces that he will mot stand again for Akaroa, his medioal adviser having forbidden him. Mr. McGregor, mayor of Akatoa, is a candidate for that seat. AUCKLAND, July 2. It is understood that Mr. Lake will not . contest Waipa. . .'' The only candidate spoken of in opposi* tion to Sir Maurice O'Rorke, at Manukau, is Mr. S. S. Osborne.. Mr. Mitcbelson announces that he is a candidate for Eden. In bis farewell address to the electors of Marsden, he says , that the present position of the colony ii such that it behoves every man who has its true interests at heart to assist, by every meaDs fn his power, in placing the country in the hands of those who are capable of bringing it to a sound financial condition. > Mr. S. Vaile will be a candidate for a City seat in the interests of financial and railway reform. It is stated thnt Mr. Jackman, of Ftbr a Mr. A. Colbeck, and Mr. Kemp will con* test the Rodney seat. Mr. Withy addressed a meeting to-night, stating his policy to be Freetrade and retrenchment. A vote of confidence was passed at the close of the address. MARTON, July 1. Mr. A. E. Remington, one of the can* didates for the Rangitikei seat, spoke at Bulls last night. There was a good attendance, and the meeting orderly throughout. A vote of thanks only was carried by a small majority, only about one-third of those present voting.
