He spoke of the unity displayed during the pnpt year, and hoped they would get alonj; the next year with the same harmony. He was of the same way of thinking as Mr. Syme — that the ratepayers were in favor of the action of j the boaid, that they had done all they could for the welfare of the ratepayers, and if they did anything wrong they were brought before the public, thanks to their Rahotu coireapondent. Syme moved that the meetings of this board be held on the first Saturday of each L'lonth, at 1 p.m. Mr. Elwin seconded. Mr. Syme, in speaking to the motion, sail the hour of meeting was a very inconvenient one at the present season, Tiz., 3 p.m., having a long way to go during the winter months when it was dark. The day likewise was very inconvenient, as lie had to be in the saddle so much to attend the local bodies in New Plymouth. He thought Saturday was a very convenient day, having Sunday to rest. Mr. Bayly had 6aid last year that Saturday did rot suit him as he had business in town on Saturdays. If he came to a meeting on Saturdays he would have to travel on Sundays ; but considerthat Mr. Bnyly only attended so few meetings, while others attended many, they should be considered first, and by carrying his resolution it would give members an opportunity of travelling by daylight. Mr. Stevenson said that Mr. Bayly objectel to hating the meetings on Saturdays, as he would have to travel on Sundays, which he disapproved of. An earlier hour than at present would suit Mr. Middleton much better. Mr. Elvin would rather the matter stood over until Mr. Bayly was present, as it appeared invidinus to pass the resolution in his absence. Mr. Syme replied th;it Mr. Bayly knew of the meeting, and lie did not see the u.^e of postponing it, and did not see why Mr. Bayly's convenience should be considered at the expense ut the other six members. The motion was carried. A discussion arose whether a meeting in every other month would pot be sufficient. Some favored a tri-monthly meeting. The matter of dealing with the Recreation Domain was being dicussed when your reporter left. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the School Committee was held on the 28id. Present — Messrs. A. Anderson, Chapman, Sullivan, Coffey, Williams, aud Q. W. Gane (chairman). Mr. Coffev proposed, and Mr. Sullivan seconded, That Mr. Gane be secretary and treasurer. Mr. Anderson piopos°d Mr. Williams, remarking that it was too much to put all the work on Mr. Gane. Mr. Gane urged Mr. Williams to agree, as it was rather much for him. Mr. Williams would not, so Mr. Gane was e'ected. The Chairman laid a lot of correspondence on the table, which had been accumulating since the commfiucemeut of the school, urging the necessity of destroying what was useless. He proposed, That Messrs. Anderson and Chapman be a committee to select what documents were necessary to be kept or destroyed. Seconded by Mr. Coffey.
