DUNEDIN, January 25.
Denis Wren, tbe first witness to-day, details the nature of Cain's illness and tbe medicines given him, and stated emphatically that he implicitly obeyed the doctors' instructions.
Margaret Houston, examined, said tbe Cain family were in good health when she went to Woodlands. Cain was taken ill a week before Xinas ; had known Gain to leave tbe room at meal times saying he was sick ; could not fix tbe date he died : be did not take whiskey while she was there; saw him sick once, but could not recollect the date. Heard from Caiu and Bridget Ryan that he had been sick before this, though that occasion would be about the beginning of January; for about a fortnight before Kaye came and attended him in the day time, then he went on getting worse; sat up with him about a week before Kaye came ; Uain sometimes sent Wren away ; could not have him at this point.
Witness burst into hysterical crying, and the examination was postponed. Florence Giilon was then examined.
