DAY OF REST.
Mr Luis Jackson, of Chicago, propose? the formation of a World** Day of Beat League. He claims, from a praotipal study of the subject, that human rapaoUy is becoming so great, that unless the working men of all denominations take measures to preserve a uniform day of rest, they may lobo it altogether. He desires the League to be untraumeled/by any question of particular belief, timpbr advocating tbat which he believes was m original and bomaae intent at Mosaism-— namely, the gu&r&nteeing to labor a i*j of rest. He has already proposed to bis Jewish brethren, on tbe broad claims of humanity, from prudential motiVev, smL in the interest of Jewish artisans, :tbkt 1 a? a convention of representative Jews from all pa* to of tho world to-be in the year 1900, tbe Jewish Sabbath be transferred to. the Nationalrfiaj of.jßtst by authoritative edict. He faffy .belle vet, tbat wben this measure is* piously considered by bis coreligionists, they will make tbe sacrifice of transien£njt! jtivki eabbath, thus, .in his opinion*, recording on the .imperishable tablet of. chronology tbe benevolent and influential action ofan ancient Cburcb, still vigorous intueeansa., of civilisation. Mr Jackson ittrtbe^datSw tbat although modern- ideas are onatiffiiM' the aapectßof beliefs, itisnejther inteßWT' nor desirable that practical benefits* :ioeh> as a day of rest, conferred by rejig^m systems, be destroyed in tbe general daof?! olition. He therefore believes t^at,aU would willingly unite on tfng common/ platform. It is intended to form' att international committee' "iri 'the abdyt interest as soon as practicable. ' •■ j "">
