ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

, (per united pbess association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. It id very difficult to obtain full particulars in connection with the alleged attempted suicide last night. Various rumors have been afloat all the morning. Some contend that Mr. Lewis was only suffering from cerebral congestion, and others brain trouble. It is, however, well known that Mr. Lewis did make an attempt to cut his throat, and that this fact was admitted by Lewis' mother to the mother pf the young lady about to be married. The wounds are not at all of a serious nature, and the { patient is progressing- as well as can be expected. One medical gentlemen who was called in to see Lewis immediately it was ascertained what was the matter Btates : " The immediate danger, in my opinion, is from cerebral congestion, and other brain, troubles. Lewis has had an exciting time of it during the session, and has overtaxed his powers." The police are making enquiries into the affair, but as yet ;tbeyi have been tumblo to obtain any particulars, the medical advisers preventing any person vising Mr. Lewis.
