A two-roomed cottage in Oldwin's-road was destroyed by fire last night. Insured j for £100. Some clothes which had been left to dry in front of the fire ignited and caused the fire. j Juvenile branches of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Society are being formed, the subscription being threepence a year. * ' ' TIMARU, October 12. Inspector Fender, who leaves for Christ- ' church to-morrow, was presented by the citizens with a handsome marble clock and a purse of 100 guineas. At the monthly meeting of the Harbor Board to-day, the engineer reported that i tbe breakwater had been extended 50 feet during the month. He further reported that he found that the shingle was not following the breakwater out at all, but was fast reclaiming land some distance to , the southward. A committee was ap- . pointed to arrange for taking a poll re the . proposed loan.
