ALL FOR HER.
The " green-eyed monster" yesterday evening seized upon the mind of an utterly too Biisceptable youthful draper engagod at au establishment at Patoa, and tho result was that ho determined to end his woes and love in the river. It seems that the lady of his love, who is engaged as a " baby • hawker " to a Patea tradesman, repudiated the devotiou of the infatuated lad, and as she had met Borne other swain who sho liked better, sho returned tho draper the engaged ring he had presented her. Thus blighted, he rushed to tho river's bank, and divested himself of his attire. But, beforo taking the fatal plunge, the love-sick swnin acquainted a boatman of his intention, and the result was, that ere he had time to get further into the stream thau his knees, he was iuterviewod by the police, who accommodated him with suitable and inexpensive lodging for tho night. The " wretched " boy was taken beforethe local bench this morning and remanded, in order that a slight attack of influenza he had contracted in the "purling brook" might be reduced.
