LONDON, February 24.
The House of Lords has, in accordance with a resolution passed on the 17th inst., nominated Peers to serve in a select committee of inquiry into the working of the Land Act. The Marquis of Salisbury, at whose instigation, the motion was passed, refuses to relinquish the projected inquiry because of a motion tabled by Mr. (Gladstone in the House of Commons, setting forth that the proposed action of the Lords is untimely, and will defeat the operation oi the Land Act, and' prove injurious to good government in Ireland. The motion is deemed by Lord Salisbury to be a threat to the House of Lords.
In the House of Commons to-day the Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs, in' reply to question, stated that it was intended that a measure which had been introduced by Miiiister of Commerce in
French Chambers providing for the " most favored nation's " treatment to English goods should take effect at from loth. May next and that in the meanwhile the tariff fixed under the existing commercial treaty should remain in force. Sir. dins. Dilke further stated that traction of the French Government was entirely voluntary, and added that England was iv no way pledged as to the course she should pursue in view oi ihe non-conclusiou of the new treaty with France.
Reports have been current thnt arrests have been made in connection witli the theft of the body of the late Earl of Crawford from the mausoleum at Dunvecht House. It is now, however, authoritatively stated that no such arrests have been made.
PARIS, February 25. The Bill introduced by M. Airard, Minister of Commerce, providing for the most favored nation treatment of English goods under the French tariff, has been adopted by the Chambers.
MELBOURNE, February 26,
The return cricket match between Shaw's All England Eleven and Eleven of Victoria, was resumed to-day. There was a large attendance. The Victorians resumed their first innings, which closed for a total of 249 runs. Boyle being the highest scorer witli 37. The Englishmen then went in, and when the stumps were drawn, they had put together 201 for the loss of five wickets. The following is the full score :— Ulyett, stumped, 38 ; Sclby, caught, 1 ; Barlow, caught, 19 ; Bates, bowled, 84 ; Midwinter, caught, 12 ; Shrewsbury, not out, 25; Scotton, not out, 2.
SYDNEY, February 26.
The trial of Messrs. Waddel, Baker, and Matheson, for conspiracy to defraud the shareholders in the Milburn Creek Coy., was concluded to-day. The jury, however, disagreed, and were discharged. The accused were bound over to appear at the next assizes.

News has been received here that the steamer Kamereuka came into collision with a ketch off New South Wales coast, near Bicroft Point. The ketch sank, and one of the crew was drowned.
