EGMONT RACING CLUB.

A general meeting of the above Club was held ou Friday at Mr. R. H. Nolan's offices. The meeting was fairly well attended and the folio wiug business was transacted. On the motion of Mr. Hughes, Mr. Nolan took the chair. He explained that the committee had met and had drawn up a scale of fees for admission at the gate, had ratified an agreement made by the Secretary with Mr. Petherick for the erection of a temporary grand stand, saddling paddock, &c.,on the race ground, and for the removal of the same after the meeting, and that he now proposed to submit to the general meeting the names of a number of new members who would have to be ballotted for. Twenty-six names were submitted, as follow : Messrs. Walter Wilson, H. M. Skeet, J.Johnston, W. Johnston, W. R. Prosser, James Davidson, William Hughes, L. K. Prichard, J. A. Suiter, J. S. Aduins, Harry Bayly, Win. Stanley, A. G. Brett, John Prosser, Adolphus A. Gower, James L. Perry, A. W. Budge, A. Young, Joseph Chadwick jun., J. Meuh, A. J. Howard, Arthur Owen, James W. Durie, J. O'Sullivan, William Gallagher, Daniel Ross, Thomas King, Robert King, Charles Days, F. 11. Douegbue, Donald Buchanan, Duncan McGregor, Owen Pleasants, Otto Haase, Jos. Wilson, P. Dolan, J. Treweek jun., and R. Dacre. All those proposed were duly elected, the Club now numbers eighty-six members. The Secretary read over correspondence from Messrs. Hill and Poole agreeing to give one third of percentage received on totalisator up to i'soo, and one half of percentage above that amount, in accordance with offer made by the Club to them. The license from the Colonial S cretary authorising the use of the totalisator was laid on the table.

Letters were read from — Mr. F. R, Jackson, agreeing to act as judge, and thanking the club for the compliment. — From Mr. H. G. Morecroft, agreeing to work on the committee of management of Egmont Club, as it seemed likely to be well conducted and ably managed. — From the Hon. Major Atkinson, promising that additional horse-boxes for the New Plymouth railway would be put on before the race meeting, if possible. — From the manager of the New Plymouth railway, promising to do all in his power to carry out the wishes of the secretary of the club, in respect to alterations in fares and in time-table at the date ot race meeting, as suggested by the latter. — From Mr. Hately agreeing to act as haudicapper to the club ; the stewards, oi any other person they might appoint, to put weights on any horse belonging to Mr. Hately. — From Mr. J. Burke, agreeing to act as starter, and thanking club for compliment conferred. — From several other gentlemen,

promising support to the club. The secre-tury presented the following list of prices ot admission : — Foot passengers, 25. ; children under 12, half-price ; horsemen, 2s. 6d. ; vehicles (including driver), 2s. Gil., plus 2s. for every passenger. Members' tickets to admit member and one lady to any part of the ground free. Non-members' admission to grandstand and saddling paddock, 2s. 6d.

The list was adopted without alteration.

The meeting agreed that Messrs. R. H. Nolan and Co. should submit fie gates and privileges to auct on on Thursday, 16th March, the privileges to include two booths, and one refreshment stall below the grand-stand, where no intoxicating liquors should be sold. Reserve prices were fixed in each case.

The Secretary reported that between £'50 and A'6o had been already received as subscriptions, and informed the meeting that he issued no members' tickets until the subscriptions were first paid.

It wab resolved to endorse the action of the Tarauaki and Wanganui Jockey Clubs disqualifying J. Byrne, who rode Suuray without paying entrance fee, and entered the horse in the name of Mr. Higgie without the latter's consent.

The committee having reported in favor of appointing the Bank oi Australasia as their bankers, the meeting endorsed the appointment. In reply to questions, the Secretary informed the meeting that he had no doubt that the meeting would be a success. Ho had received much encouragement in influential quarters, and looked forward to good entries. Nominations were to close on the 6th March, after which the club would be able to judge whether or no the meeting was likely to be as successful as he anticipated. At the close of the meeting a general opinion was expressed that the Secretary had worked hard, and had done everything that was necessary to ensure the success of the first meeting of tiie Egmont Racing Club. Several of those present agreed that they had never known a club make a better start.
