HAWERA COUNTY COUNCIL.
February 22nd., 1882.
The Council met at 11.30. Present: Messrs. Hunter (chairman), Inkster, Livingston, Fiukyson, Godkin, Partridge, and Vorke.
The minutes of th« previous meeting wer« r<ud and confirmed.
CORRESPONDENCE.
Memo, read from the Public "Works Office to the effect that the gravel from
the Waingougoro pit was superior to that at Mahgawhero ; btit that both would be' kept open to the local bodies. Resolved, That Mr. Wells report on Tongcihoe bridge bo forwarded to the Hawera Road Board with a t request that they will have the repairs indicated executed at once, the Council being prepared to defray the cost. Mr. Wells' report was to the effect that by strengthening the under strutting of the Tongr'ioo bridge iv the mann-r suggested auci kUehed out by him, the bridge, though uur.igl.ily, would last aud ha safe for the next t*->o years. Iv respect to the Manawr-pou, a new bridge would be required. L... Harden, Patea County Engineer, ieported that a new bridge would be required at Manawapou, and that' he was preparing plans and specifications. The Chairman reported that he had received an application to open the Austin road, near Robson's sawmills.
On the motion of Mr. Partridge, se : oouded by Mr. Yorke, it was resolved that the Hawera Road Board be asked to supply more information re subsidising Austin road, as to length and estimated cost of gravelling and forming the same, and what amount the road board will spend out of their own funds if the County Council grants a subsidy. The Council then went into committee to open tenders for post of clerk. The following were received: — G. V. Bate (accepted), £50 ; R. J. Moore, £40 ; C. E; Major, £40. Resolved — •• That the ordinary meeting of the Council be held on the first of each calendar month, at 11.15 a.m., at the Council offices, Hawera. In the event of the date of the meeting falling on a Sunday or on a public holiday, the meeting to be held on the day following. First meeting under the resolution to be held on April Ist." Resolved— " That Mr. James Wells be granted a fee of two guineas for his inspection, and report on the Manawapou and Tongahoe bridges.
