SALE OF TAIT'S PADDOCK.

The sale of the property known as Mr C. Tait's paddock was held to-day by Messrs Nolan and Co., and passed off well. A letter was read from Mr. Livingston, owner of the 10 acre section which intervenes between the land under sale and Glover Road, stating that when that land was cut up a road taken from near the Scotch Church through Tait's paddock would be combined to Glover Road. Sections flouting on this road were first offered, and brought £20 and £21, but as the main street was approached the auctioneer declined to sell more at that price. The sections fronting Highstreet was then offered, the furthermost from the centre of the town bringing £41. The next one was withdrawn at that price. Corner section fronting High-street and the new street before referred to was sold for £76; the opposite corner brought £80, and adjoining sections fronting Highstreet were sold at £50, £56, £55, and £G4. The corner section opposite Mr. Espagne's brought £127 10s. The house in which Mr. C. Tait lives, with about a fifth of an acre, brought £230. The back sections were sold, averaging about £26. A number of lots were passed, but those sold realised about £1600.
