Archibald Campbell, known in Wanganui and Hawera, was arrested lnst night on a charge of stealiug a watch from the dwelling of Mr. Goodfellow. He will be brought up this morning. WELLINGTON, Yesterday. H.M.S. Emerald was expected to leave Sydney on the 31st December for Wellington, reaching hereabout the 10th inst. It is understood she will take his Excellency to either Fiji or Sydney. The total customs revonue collectod in the colony for the nine months ending the 31st of December amounted to .£1,074.749, being about £66,000 over the estimate. AUCKLAND, Yesterday. Comment is being made about a stowaway on the Australia being quarantined, while the Hon. Mr. Whit iker boarded the steamer to see Sir Henry Parkes, and returned to town. DUNEDIN, Yesterday. Messrs. C. Coombs and Son, tannors, have called a meeting of their creditors. The liabilities are A' 40,000, partly secured ; assets, £26,000. A letter from Government giving dotails of the intended plan of dealing with the Otago runs was read at the Land Board to-day. It was decided to hold a special meeting on Tuesday next to consider it. CHRISTCHURCH, Yesterday. Mr. Ivess intends to potition against Mr. Wason's election for Wakanui. NAPIER, This Day. A man named Thomas Floyd, who hung the Maori rebel Keroopa, is missing from a camp in Mohaka. He was suffering from delirium tremens, and his companion left him to obtain assistance), and iv the ineautitao ho disappeared.

Joseph Thompson while intoxicated, made a determined atiernp: :tr, suicide by jumping otl the Wuugan.u Br.clge last ovem'ng. He was rescued by a boat from the sttamer Clyde, and locked up. In 1868, the same man jumped over a cliff at Oakura, but was saved through his clothes ciitching in the bushes. About a year ago, he threw himself into the Huatolu Eiver, and narrowly escaped drowning. NELSON, This Day. A six-roomed house in Brook-strael, Valley, occupied by Mr. Pusch, was destroyed by fire to-day. Considerable difficulty was experienced in rescuing his wife, who is an invalid. The house belonged to Mr. Cullen, of Picton, and was insured in the Liverpool, London, and Globe for iIOO. Mr. Pusch, who is a maker of plaster of Paris images, had his furniture and models insured in the New Zealand office for .£4OO, and his stock of images for J250.
