MANAIA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The committee met on Thursday evening. Present — Messrs. Dingle, Hughes, O'Brien, and Yorke (chairman.) Correspondence was read from the Education Department stating that the Board took all initiatory steps in the appointment of teacher, but tbat the committee's approval was always asked before appointing.
It was pointed out .Jthatjthe -Board having invited applications from teachers in their employ, it was*- only reasonable to suppose that teachers "working' uacter the Board would have .a first claim The" Board would probably hav'tfa-tiiutfls-larger-' number of applications to deal with than had come before the committee. - .;•- . . On the motion of" Mr.. Dingle, it was:, resolved, to telegraph to the Chairman of tlie Education Board asking fcbftt a. te&ohftC" be appointed at -once. - The Wesleyan" Chapel was how "at tlie disposal of the committee, "and" they hoped that? sufficient school furniture for 40~children would be forwarded to be placed in the Wesleyan Chapel, for .school to be opßßsd shortly. The building measures 30ft. by 16ft.. The chairman explained that lie had the contract signed for the school build- •' ing, Mr. Symes 1 (of Hawera) tender at ;£720 having been accepted. The time given was four months from December 11. The CQmroitte thought that manywho could not afford to wait so long, aD<3-..' that a school of some sort was much : needed at once. It was resolved that a bee should be called for clearing and levelling tbe school* sections on Tuesday next, 20th, at 8 a.m., volunteers invited. " . .'.
