THE COMMERCIAL HOTEL, MANAIA.

Now, that the improvements and additions to the above hotel are nearing completion, we propose to indicate briefly the nature of the accommodation provided. It will be remembered that Mr. McCarthy at first erected a boardinghouse,,but finding the demands made for accommodation would warrant the opening of another hotel, he applied for, and obtained a license, having first undertaken to add largely to the original buildiag. These additions are now nearly completed, and the present building contains no less than fifteen up-stairs, and three downstairs bed-rooms, three small sitting-rooms on the ground floor, separated from the bar by a 6 feet lobby, one large bar-parlor, a spacious cJiniuft-roota, 18 JWi x 22 feet; also, a comfortable private sitting-room upstairs with fireplace, in addition to bathroom, and other offices. The upstairs accommodation is good, the walls being fully as high in the upper as in the lower storey. The contractors, Messrs. Buchanan and Barrelle, have evidently taken pains witb'tbeir work, and have given great satisfaction. They are from Feilding, but are likely to remain in this district. The bar is remarkably handsome, and has been much admired. The painting has been executed by $$£. Eead, of Hawera, in his usual tasteful style. The accommodation is practically increased by oxtt-buildings, including washhouse, dairy, and back kitchen. A large stable is to be built at once, and would have been erected before now, if the timber had not been delayed in transit. The house is well filled at present, " shakedowns" being in request at the date of our visit. There is a good billiard saloon on the premises, aacfera sepmabe roof, but conveniently situated, as there ia access to it across a covered cart way. A balcony at the back connected with an out-door, in addition to the indoor staircase, gives ample opportunity for escape in case of fire.
