There was but one opinion. ftUQUt tllQ Agricultural and Pastoml Association's Show on Thursday, viz : that it was a good one. Some there were who contended that it was better even than the Wanganui Show ; but as "comparisons are odorous," we. do not intend to pronounce an opinion on so knotty a question. It cannot be denied that there was a grand exhibition of short-horn bulls, and also of hacks. Draught entries were a good class, and the judges expressed themselves more than satisfied with, the shdep. In the. first class of blood stock, we missed three good horses shown last year, Patriarch, Puriri, and St. Alban's. Their absence rendered the class much less interesting, as there could be little doubt where the prize had to go. Hailstorm, though small, is so truly shaped, has such grand limbs, and powerful hocks, that he is as the Yorfcsirireman aayß— " a bad un* to beat " in any company. As it was, his win was an easy one. "We thought Gladiator, the second horse, was not looking quite as well as we have seen him. Age is beginning to tell upon him ; but this grandly bred and handsome son of Gladiateur is not a favorite sire of ours, though his head and neck are perhaps as perfect a mod 1 as any man need wish to see. A new comer Morpheus is a handsome 4-year old by Castaway, a tall, raking chestnut, with good shoulders, short strong back, fair quarters, and plenty of bone, which go far to commend him. Size, power, and bone are not often found together, and deserve much consideration. Unfortunately, the colt is somewhat spoilt by being high on the leg, and his knees and hocks are too far from the ground. With age, he will thicken out and let down, and will be apt to please the eye both of breeders and judges in the show yard. We were pleased to hear that Patriarch has recovered from his illness, and is now sound and well. In draught stock, Sir William 1 Wallace's Condition s»d appearance were 1 much admired. The judges had no difliculty in placing him first. The contest for second prize between Mr. Mcßae's big chestnut, and Mr. Chalmer's Knockdon, was closer, but the size and weight of the former secured him his place. It is to be regretted that he is not as sound on his : legs as a horse of his age ought to be. The bulls were a grand show ; no less than five aged and four 3-year-old shorthorn bulls were exhibited, most of them high class animals, and several of exceptional merit. Mr. Winks' Duke of Edinburgh contested the place for chain* pion with Sir Hercules ; and it is seldom that two such grand specimens of the breed meet to contend for honors in the show yard. Both had many admirers, but upon the whole the verdict of the judges was in favor of Sir Hercules, was generally concurred in. Those who admired the old bull were wishing thathe had been shown in as high condition as Messrs. Arrundel and Boss 1 exhibit. As usual at country shows, the sires were throughout of higher merit than the dams, though much young stock of a superior class was brought forward. The following are the awards : —

We desire to thank most heartily tbe president, secretary, and other office holders for the courtesy shown to our representative, and for the information very promptly afforded. The judges' decisions gave very general satisfaction on tbe whole, and there was not asingle dispute or quarrel to mar the day's enjoyment. Tbe weather' was beautifttf, and the arrangements generally very good. Mr. McCarthy's booth was well supplied with lunch and drinkables throughout the day, -and was freely patronised.
