(prom odb own correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. The nomination for the Town of New Plymouth has been fixed for Friday, 2nd December, and polling on the 9th. Two candidates are up, Thos. Kelly (the old member) and Major Chas. Brown. For the District of Taranaki, Colonel Trimble is the onfy candidate yet out.
(per united press association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Guthrie and Larnach's tender for railway sleepers has been accepted. 10,000 totara or black pine, delivered at Lyttelton, 2s. lOci. each ; 20,000, delivered at Timaru, and 10,000 delivered at Oamaru, same price. The services of the Ngaire Rifle Volunteers have been accepted ; Joseph Henry Cowen captain. F. D. Fenton is re-appointed Chief Judge of of the Native Lands Court. Wm. Bayly is appointed member of the New Plymouth Harbor Board. All volunteers in the Taranaki, Patea, Canterbury, and Marlborough districts, Wh.o are at tbe front, are gazetted on actual service. CHRISTCHUROH, Nov. 11. A meeting of stoekowners p ..1 others was held to-day to consider tho desirability of forming a company for freezing and exporting meat, butter, and cheese. An influential committee was appointed to collect information and report. ASHBURTON, Nov. 11. At a late hour last night the Ashburton railway and traffic bridge ciossing at the Ashburton river was reported to be on fire. The stationmaster visited the place on an engine, and found that the flames had got a good hold of the wood work. With assistance he managed to put out the fire, winch is supposed to have originated through some careless smoker throwing down a match and igniting some dry material on the bridge. DUNEDIN, Nov. 10. The Daily Times' Melbourne correspondent cables that Sir Modred and Sornnus have been seized for debt. A law-suit is pending. Great excitement is caused in Melbourne on the subject. PICTON, This Day. Mr. Eyes, candidate for Piclon, adPressed, a large meeting of the electors on Saturday evening, and received an almost unanimous A'ote of confidence. The Clarendon Hotel was burned to the ground last night. The house is said to be insured for .£1200 ; furniture, J-300.
