(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) NEW PLYMOUTH, This D.iy. At the Land Board, the Hanger made
an interesting report respecting the opening up of the back country eastward of the railway line. The Board recommended that the proposals should be carried out and a copy of the report is to be forwarded to the Government.
(per united press association.) WELLINGTON, Yesterday. The Supreme Court was occupied all .yesterday hearing the case of George Georgesen v. Master and owners of the barque Malay. The action was brought to recover .£2OO damages for injuries sustained through alleged carelessness of
defendant's servants. Plaintiff was a passenger by the barque to Newcastle, and during the voyage a seaman let a block fall from alolt, striking Georgesen on the hand, and smashing three fingers. The jury gave a verdict of AIOO. AUCKLAND. This Day. Drunkenness is on the increase here. Thirteen persons were charged with that ofi'euce at the Police Court yesterday. The Auckland Meat Preserving Company are about to send a trial shipment to England.
