LONDON, September 28.

At the wool sale to-day, 9,200 bale s were catalogued, and a firm and active demand was experienced. Prices generally for all descriptions of wool now rule one halfpenny higher than at the close of last sales.

A meeting of the Irish Bishops has been held, at which resolutions were passed, expressing the opinion that the authors of the Irish Land Act are entitled to the gratitude of tenants, and recommending the latter to utilise fully the benefits provided by the measure. Warning them against secret agencies, or acts of violence, and intimidation. The resolutions further expressed an opinion, that an amnesty should be granted to the prisoners now in custody under the Coercion Act.

WASHINGTON, September 28.

The funeral of the late President Garfield took place on Monday at Cleveland, in the state of Ohio. There were fully 17,000 visitors from all all parts of the country for the occasion, and enormous crowds of residents were also present. The funeral procession was most imposing. Among those forming the same were Secretary Hayep| and members of Cabiuef, and a large number of members of Congress, 1500 notable personages, including representatives of foreign countries.
