SAILORS ON STRIKE.

There was immense excitement on the wharf on Tuesday morning through the seamen's strike. Seven men belonging to the Manawntu have gone to gaol. The Huia left short handed, tlire > of her men having been arrested, and the captain and purser remaining to give evidence. The Tui also left for Foxton without any one before the mast. The Go-ahead also had great difficulty in obtaining hands. There was great groaning from the Union men on the wharf.
Later.
The sailors' strike still continues. The crew of the Go-ahead struck, but a fresh crew was soon obtained. The Jane Douglas' crew adopted the same tactics, but a fresh crew was immediately procured, and the steamer went to sea. Four seamen belonging to the Huia, who signed articles for six months, have been arrested for leaving their vessel. The crew of the steamer Manawatu went out on strike on Wednesday night, and were arrested on a charge of refusing duty. The vessel, which was ready to sail for Wanganui, was detained in consequence. The crew of the steamer Patea was also on strike, but have come to terms.
