New Plymouth, Last night.
Arrangements have been made to deposit in a copper box, when the first stone is laid at the harbor works on Monday, of the newspapers published in the Taranaki Provincial District, including the Star and Patea Mail ; also a copy of Wells' " History of Taranaki," together with some account of the district engrossed on vellum, coins of the realm, and any other document which it may be considered has r ference to the district.

The match committee have telegraphed to the following cricketers to ascertain whether th(-y will be able"* to play in the match, Australians v. Wanganui Twentytwo :—Messi-s.: — Messi-s. Eead, Eiddiford, Coutts, Beresford, Parrington, Miller, and Bayly, Patea; Wilson and Fulton, Eangitikei; Robinson, Eustace, Walker, Tornkins-, Hyde, and Samson, Manawatu. The remaining players have not yet been selected.
Wellington, Last night.
The cricket match, Australians v. Wellington Twenty-two, will commence today, and will be continued on Monday and Tuesday.
